The Trust has been working in the Mara region of Tanzania, to get at least 20,000 children who were out of school back into school. This project that has been underway since July 2016 identified and helped prepare children to be reintegrated into the formal education system through putting them in a fast tracked programme to help them catch up.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Phase One of Mara-Out-Of- School Education Programme officially came to an end on the 31st of March 2019, with the Ministry of Education in Tanzania committing to ensure learning continues in centres where the children were enrolled. Despite the different challenges realized during the project implementation,\u00a0 such as the low number of girl enrollment, the project was a great success. It successfully registered a total of enrollment of 23, 487 out of school children, of whom 28% are female (6,541) and 72% are male (16,946) and learners are transitioning to the mainstream education.<\/p>\n

Summary Project Results (1 July 2016 \u2013 31 December 2018)<\/strong><\/p>\n

To date, the project has managed to set up a total of 421 centres in 9 Local Government Authorities and trained trained 786 teachers, paraprofessionals and government trainers on the Care and Support for Teaching and Learning (CSTL) and Complementary Basic Education in Tanzania (COBET) models.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The project also purchased and distributed 12,195 COBET books, 60,000 learners\u2019 books, 7,200 facilitators\u2019 books and 8,300 teachers and learners\u2019 kits to COBET centres. We are currently working towards mobilising resources in order to set up Phase Two of the project.<\/p>\n
